Hutongs are rich in culture and subtly beautiful, possessing a quiet charm that makes them so unique and important to Beijing. In "Chai Dynasty," Zara highlights their attraction by interposing an aesthetically obvious beauty: patterns and colours inspired by Qing Dynasty vases, which are well known for their splendor. At the center of each floral design is the Chinese character for destroy (chai). The encircled chai character is well known for its association with the demolition of Beijing’s hutongs.
